Book design for independent creatives

One of the many reasons I started Sun Rider Press was because I wanted to make books. I love the process of crafting a beautiful physical product from somebody’s words, stories and photographs, and seeing it go on to have a life of its own.

With a strong desire to continue designing and producing books, I have launched Sun Rider Studio. It's a separate entity from Sun Rider Press, though the two are connected in name because the books are designed by the same person — me, Mike.
These projects are not published by Sun Rider Press. Instead, they are designed collaboratively with authors and creators from the ground up, using the tools and expertise needed to prepare a book for printing or self-publishing. In essence, Sun Rider Studio functions as a book design service across my areas of passion, including travel, music, food and art.
How It Works
  • The process is collaborative, personalised and set at a pace that works for both of us
  • Design work is quoted based on estimated hours or days - roughly 35 GBP p/h or 250 GBP per day, however this can sometimes be negotiated, and discounts may apply for larger jobs
  • Payment is made in instalments over the course of the project
  • Collaborations can be done from any corner of the world through the beauty of technology

 

Additional details:

  • Interior design work will be completed by myself
  • An external cover artist may also be brought in if required
  • I will prepare all files for professional print readiness
  • The author pays for printing separately
  • My ethos is to produce strictly independent books, so I prefers to work on projects where a print run will be ordered from an independent printing company (even if it’s as low as 25 copies!)
  • I can also help source a reliable local printer
